Film Fill and Splash Fill
There are two styles of cooling tower fill: film fill and splash fill. Film fill works with vertical or cross fluted surfaces to create a thin film of water that spreads as it flows, exposing as much water surface area as possible to the interacting airflow. Splash fill uses horizontal surfaces that cause the water to splash and create droplets of water with a large combined surface area, continually exposing more water surface to the airflow. Both styles achieve the effect of putting as much water surface area in contact with as much air as possible, for the longest amount of time possible. Among cooling tower fill, there are different models including vertical fluted, cross corrugated, offset vertical, and clog resistant.
